Six people were taken into custody and weapons, narcotics and smuggled goods were recovered during emergency law-enforcement sweeps spanning several districts on Thursday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service reported.

In the Northern North area, a special unit carried out a sweep in Tunapuna from late afternoon into the evening. At a man’s home they found nearly a dozen mature cannabis plants, more than a kilogramme of the drug, and several items of military-style clothing. The occupant was placed under arrest. Acting on subsequent information, the same team searched overgrown terrain in Maloney and located a handgun with a dozen rounds in its magazine. Senior officers Mc Kenzie and Balewa oversaw this phase.

A parallel operation in the North Central zone, running from early evening until 11 pm, involved detectives from multiple units including the CID operations squad, several local criminal investigation departments, the Guard and Emergency Branch, and dog handlers. Four additional arrests resulted.

An El Dorado resident was apprehended when a loaded Beretta handgun with fourteen rounds was allegedly found on him. A Macoya individual was detained for having cannabis, while a man from Trincity was picked up over allegations of property destruction and menacing threats. A Tunapuna resident was also held on suspicion of burglary and theft. Senior Superintendent Gift, Superintendent Jaikaran and Assistant Superintendent Pierre directed this effort.

Elsewhere in the same division, a warehouse at Garden Village, Arouca, was searched, yielding stashes of untaxed cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. A sexagenarian from Arouca was arrested over these goods.

In the North Eastern sector, another special unit searched a derelict wooden building in Morvant during the afternoon and found an assault-style rifle with a magazine holding twenty-nine 5.56 mm cartridges. Acting W/Senior Superintendent Guy-Alleyne, Superintendent Birch and Acting Assistant Superintendent Callender commanded this raid, which also used canine support.

Authorities confirmed that all cases remain under active investigation.
