Stolen Nissan recovered, Toyota driver arrested in Valencia police operation

A stolen vehicle was recovered and a 31-year-old man arrested during Operation Steady Guard in the Valencia District on Sunday night.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and a stolen Nissan Bluebird Sylphy recovered during a police roadcheck operation in the Valencia District on Sunday night, guardian.co.tt reports.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said officers conducted a Roving Roadcheck Operation — dubbed Steady Guard — along Tapana Road between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. as part of ongoing law enforcement efforts in the district.

The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Ettienne, Inspectors Gadar and Harper, and Sergeant Ramnarine, under the supervision of Police Constable Rattansingh. Officers from the Valencia Criminal Investigations Department also participated.

During the patrol, officers observed two vehicles — a Toyota Hilux and a Nissan Bluebird Sylphy. As police approached, the driver of the Nissan exited the car and fled into nearby bushes, evading capture. The driver of the Toyota Hilux remained at the scene and was detained.

Subsequent checks revealed the Nissan had been tampered with and was displaying false registration plates. Further enquiries confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Pinto Police District on June 24.

Investigations conducted at the scene led to the arrest of the Toyota Hilux driver on suspicion of offences connected to the stolen vehicle. Both vehicles were seized and transported to the Valencia Police Post for further investigation.

The TTPS has not released the identity of the suspect. Efforts to locate the driver who fled during the operation remain ongoing.
