Stolen Nissan with false plates recovered in Valencia, one man arrested

Police seized a stolen Nissan Bluebird Sylphy during Operation Steady Guard in Valencia on Sunday night. The Toyota Hilux driver was arrested; the Nissan's driver fled into bushes.

Stolen vehicle found with false plates during Valencia roadcheck

A stolen Nissan Bluebird Sylphy was recovered and a 31-year-old man detained during a police roadcheck operation in the Valencia District on Sunday night, guardian.co.tt reports.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said officers conducted a Roving Roadcheck Operation, named Steady Guard, between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. as part of ongoing law enforcement efforts in the district.

The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Ettienne, Inspectors Gadar and Harper, and Sergeant Ramnarine, under the supervision of Police Constable Rattansingh. Officers from the Valencia Criminal Investigations Department also participated.

Officers were on patrol along Tapana Road when they observed two vehicles — a Toyota Hilux and a Nissan Bluebird Sylphy. As police approached, the driver of the Nissan exited the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes, evading capture. The driver of the Toyota Hilux remained at the scene and was detained.

Investigators subsequently checked the Nissan and found the vehicle had been tampered with and was displaying false registration plates. Further enquiries confirmed it had been reported stolen from the Pinto Police District on June 24.

Investigations conducted at the scene led to the arrest of the Toyota Hilux driver on suspicion of offences connected to the stolen vehicle. Both vehicles were seized and transported to the Valencia Police Post for further investigation.

The TTPS has not released the suspect's identity. Efforts to locate the driver who fled during the operation remain ongoing.
