An overnight traffic enforcement operation along Park Street in Port of Spain resulted in twelve motorists being arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol, according to the Trinidad Guardian.

The checkpoint commenced shortly after midnight and continued until dawn on March 28, 2026. Among those taken into custody was a former American national now living in retirement. The accused came from different parts of Trinidad, and the group included two women alongside ten men.

Officers manning the roadblock also pulled over sixty-three other cars for inspection. None of those stops yielded any contraband or illegal substances.

The operation was commanded by Senior Superintendent Thom, with assistance from Superintendents Baird and Revanales. Assistant Superintendent Cadette handled the logistical coordination.

The enforcement action follows recent legislative changes announced in the 2025/2026 National Budget by Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo. Under the revised rules, anyone caught behind the wheel with a blood alcohol concentration above the permitted threshold can be hit with a TT$15,000 penalty, part of broader efforts to reduce road fatalities.
