A pair of males were taken into custody and a handgun confiscated after bandits struck a small grocery in Chaguanas during the afternoon.

Members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s Central Division Task Force (Area North) launched a joint operation once they were alerted to an aggravated burglary at a commercial property on La Clave Street in Edinburgh 500. The event unfolded at roughly 12:55 p.m.

Early information indicates the pair pulled up to the shop in a silver Toyota Aqua. One remained at the wheel while his accomplice, carrying a weapon, walked inside and declared the premises was being robbed. The intruder reportedly let off two rounds before grabbing money from the shopkeeper. The duo then made their escape in the same automobile.

Through rapid collaboration between various law-enforcement detachments, the getaway car was stopped on Madhoo Trace in Carlsen Field moments afterward.

Inspectors who searched the automobile discovered a black sidearm containing ten 9 mm cartridges. They also seized a set of number plates and various garments thought to have been used while carrying out the felony.

The two individuals were placed under arrest and remain detained as the probe proceeds.

Authorities highlighted that the prompt action reflects broader initiatives aimed at combating violent incidents and keeping unlawful weapons off the streets.
