According to newsday.co.tt, gunmen opened fire on pedestrians along Queen Street in downtown Port of Spain on Wednesday afternoon, killing one man and wounding two others, including an 18-year-old woman.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said the incident began at approximately 2.25 pm. Video footage circulating on social media showed two men stepping out of the back seat of a white car, pursuing their intended targets on foot with automatic rifles, firing several shots, then returning to the vehicle, which sped away.
Officers arriving at the scene found multiple people with gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where one later died.
Shortly afterwards, a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle was spotted near the Spree Simon Building on Eastern Main Road, Laventille. Police said the occupants opened fire on officers, who returned fire. The men fled on foot and were pursued. No police officers were injured during the exchange.
Three men of Picton Road, Laventille were subsequently held in connection with the attack. Besson Street Police and members of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) are leading the investigation.
