Law enforcement officers in Trinidad attempted to detain a fugitive on Saturday morning, but the suspect fled after an armed confrontation in the capital.

Personnel from the Port-of-Spain Task Force were conducting routine patrols when they observed a white Honda Vezel at the junction of Frederick and Prince Streets, the Trinidad Guardian reported.

The lawmen recognised the person behind the wheel as an individual from Beetham with active warrants linked to theft incidents in Tobago. When they signalled for the automobile to halt, it continued moving. A passenger then produced a weapon and directed it toward the officers.

The policemen discharged their firearms toward the car. Nevertheless, the occupants managed to speed away and avoid apprehension.

Authorities subsequently discovered the deserted vehicle in the Beetham area. It was transported to the Besson Street Police Station for additional investigative procedures.
