West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted on a canal path near Foxs Lane, Wolverhampton, on Sunday afternoon.

West Midlands Police are appealing for information after a woman reported being sexually assaulted on a canal path in Wolverhampton on Sunday afternoon, bbc.co.uk reports.

The assault took place at around 15:15 BST near Foxs Lane, on a path alongside the Birmingham canal.

Officers are looking to identify a man believed to have been in the area at the time. He is described as white, in his mid-30s, approximately 5ft 6in tall and of slim build, with a dark shaven beard and crooked teeth. He was wearing a long-sleeved black T-shirt, dark jogging bottoms and black shoes, and was riding a black and red bike — possibly an e-bike.

Investigators are continuing with local enquiries, reviewing CCTV footage from the area and carrying out forensic examinations. Officers are on regular patrol in the vicinity.

Detective Sergeant Ian Maduagwu said: "We believe this has been an isolated assault and our investigations are moving at pace to establish exactly who was involved. We would urge anyone who can assist to get in contact."
