Armed police arrest man in his 60s on Teignmouth seafront after assault and firearm threat

Armed officers descended on Teignmouth in Devon on Saturday after reports of an assault and a firearm threat. A man in his 60s was arrested and a non-viable firearm recovered.

Armed officers were deployed to the seafront in Teignmouth, Devon, on Saturday evening following reports of an assault and a firearm threat, Daily Express reports. The incident was first logged by Devon and Cornwall Police at 8.55pm on 30 May.

Officers were initially called after a report of an assault in Queen Street. It was further reported that a firearm was present and threats had been made, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Armed officers attended the scene and arrested a man in his 60s on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, and possession of an imitation firearm. A "non-viable firearm" was recovered at the scene.

The victim of the alleged assault sustained a cut to the face, the force confirmed. The arrested man has since been released on police bail.
