Ca.news.yahoo.com reports that Dorset Police made two arrests during a drone-assisted operation targeting anti-social driving in Sandbanks, Poole, carried out on 29 May.

More than 70 motorists were identified as exceeding the speed limit. The two individuals arrested were reportedly driving while over the legal drink and drug drive limits.

Inspector Lee Turner said the force would use "all of the options in our toolkit, including the latest technology, to reduce anti-social driving or riding and protect road users."

The evening operation involved the Roads Policing Team, Safety Camera Team, Force Support Group, Special Constables and trained drone officers. A police drone was deployed to provide an elevated vantage point, enabling officers on the ground to intercept offending drivers.

Beyond speeding, officers dealt with additional violations including mobile phone use at the wheel and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Turner said residents in Sandbanks had regularly raised concerns about poor driving behaviour, and that the force had been "taking an innovative approach using drone technology" in response.

He added that similar complaints had been received from other areas across Dorset. "We will be looking to replicate this operation in those places to support our local communities," Turner said.
