Belfast attempted murder case referred to Crown Court

Google News IE — Crime (en) reports that a 30-year-old man charged with attempted murder in north Belfast has been told his case will proceed to the Crown Court.

Hadi Alodid, of Duncairn Avenue in Belfast, appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court by video link on Tuesday morning, assisted by an Arabic interpreter.

Alodid is charged with the attempted murder of Stephen Ogilvie, who previously lost his left eye and sustained deep cuts to his head, face and back. He also faces charges of threatening to kill an NHS radiographer and possession of a knife.

The PSNI indicated earlier this week that Alodid may be from Chad, rather than Sudan as was previously understood.

The court heard that requests for outstanding materials — including witness statements and medical evidence — had already been submitted. A four-week adjournment to allow those materials to be gathered was granted by the magistrate.

The magistrate told Alodid he is facing serious charges and advised him to seek legal representation. A date for the Crown Court proceedings is expected to be set within four weeks.

When asked through the interpreter whether he wished to say anything in response, Alodid shook his head.

He was remanded in custody until 5 August.
