A drug dealer who threw a chair at police officers during a confrontation in Peterborough has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, hellorayo.co.uk reports.

Cambridge Crown Court heard that officers were called to a property in Orton Goldhay on 27 January following reports of a disturbance. Mark Smith, 42, was found acting erratically inside the home and barricaded himself in a bedroom when police arrived. He swore at officers and refused to leave the room.

When officers forced open the door, Smith threw a chair at them. He was subsequently arrested and found in possession of 21 wraps of crack cocaine and five wraps of heroin.

Smith, of no fixed address, admitted being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin, as well as assaulting a police officer.

DC Elouise Hicks said: "It was clear these drugs were meant for onward supply, and it was not simply a possession offence. Drug supply harms our communities, fuelling crime, exploitation and anti-social behaviour."

Hicks added that officers would continue targeting those involved in drug supply in Peterborough. "We will not tolerate this kind of activity in Peterborough. Officers are working hard to identify those involved in supplying drugs, to take these substances off the streets and protect local people."
