A four-year-old boy and a woman were struck by a motorcycle in South Shields. A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

A 20-year-old man is in police custody after a four-year-old boy and a woman were hit by a motorcycle in a suspected hit-and-run in South Shields, bbc.co.uk reports.

Northumbria Police received a call at around 15:30 BST on Saturday following reports of a collision on Sea Road, beside Ocean Beach Pleasure Park. A section of the road between Ocean Road and Beach Road was temporarily closed.

The boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains there. The woman, believed to be in her 30s, sustained minor injuries.

The arrested man faces suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Officers also recovered a motorcycle and helmet thought to be connected to the incident.
