Manchester man jailed for indecent act on train at Shipley station
Joseph Ward, 33, of Broadway, Droylsden, Manchester, has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to outraging public decency on a train, btp.police.uk reports.
Ward was found masturbating aboard a train at Shipley Railway Station, which was bound for Leeds, on 6 December last year. He entered his guilty plea at Leeds Magistrates' Court on 12 July, ahead of sentencing last Friday at the same court.
The magistrates determined the offence was "so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified." Ward's guilty plea was taken into account during sentencing.
In addition to the custodial term, Ward was ordered to pay £239 in total — comprising a £154 victim services surcharge and £85 in court costs. The full amount must be paid by 9 February next year.
