Three men are being held on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a body in Poole Harbour, bbc.com reports.

The victim is believed to be Michael Mitchell, 35, from Chelmsford in Essex, known to his family as "Mitch". He is thought to have entered the water at Arne Bay, in Poole Harbour, on Friday evening, though the incident was not reported until Sunday.

Dorset Police recovered the body from the harbour on Tuesday and said it was investigating the "circumstances" of the death. No formal identification has taken place, but Mitchell's family have been informed.

The three men in custody are a 46-year-old from Poole, a 31-year-old of no fixed address, and a 22-year-old from Essex. All are believed to have been known to Mitchell.

Police received the initial report shortly before 19:00 BST on Sunday, stating the man was thought to have gone into the water in the Arne Bay area between 20:00 and 21:00 on Friday. A further report, received shortly after 06:00 on Tuesday, described a man found unresponsive in the water off the coast of Baiter Park.

Officers have urged anyone with information, or anyone who had recent contact with Mitchell, to get in touch.
