Oldham killer admits murder of 55-year-old man 12 years after strangling his best man

A man who was jailed for strangling his best man to death has admitted murdering a 55-year-old man more than a decade later, bbc.co.uk reports.

David Jack, 59, of Oldham in Greater Manchester, was convicted of manslaughter in 2013 after strangling Rampersaud Ramnarine — who had served as best man at Jack's wedding in 1997 — during an argument while drinking. He was sentenced to more than five years.

Twelve years on, Jack was arrested and charged with the murder of Paul Anderson, 55, following an altercation in Oldham on 6 December, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said. Officers were called to Plumpton Close in Royton — the street where Jack lived — at around 19:50 GMT. Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jack initially denied the charge but changed his plea at Manchester Crown Court. He is due to be sentenced on Tuesday.

At the time of his 2013 conviction, a GMP officer described Jack as a "dangerous individual" who would have to live with his actions for the rest of his life.

Anderson's family paid tribute to him after his death, describing him as a "precious dad, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend who was so loved." In a further statement, they called him a "loveable rogue who wouldn't hurt a soul, sadly taken from us in the cruellest way."

"He was a gentleman with a big heart and an incredible sense of humour," the family added. "Our hearts will be forever broken."

GMP described the incident on Plumpton Close as "shocking."
