Two men were arrested after approximately 100 litres of kerosene were pumped from a tank in Laxton. One suspect also faces a Class A drugs charge.

Kerosene theft foiled in Nottinghamshire village

Two men have been arrested after officers from Nottinghamshire Police disrupted a fuel theft in the village of Laxton, near Ollerton, according to bbc.com.

Police were called to High Street at around 21:10 GMT on Monday following reports of two individuals carrying fuel cans towards a large kerosene tank. Officers located the suspects close to the scene and found that roughly 100 litres of fuel had already been pumped out into multiple containers.

The two men — aged 31 and 61 — were arrested on suspicion of theft. The 31-year-old faces an additional arrest on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs.

Inspector Gina Boothby of Nottinghamshire Police credited the officers' swift reaction, saying: "The officers involved in this discovery deserve great credit for their rapid response to this incident."

Boothby added that such thefts carry a particular impact in rural areas: "These types of thefts can be keenly felt among rural communities, especially in the current climate, with the cost of fuel continuing to rise."
