Golders Green knife attack: suspect to stand trial in 2027

Essa Suleiman, 45, will face trial at the Old Bailey beginning 1 March 2027, uk.news.yahoo.com reports, following a series of stabbings in London on 29 April.

Suleiman allegedly attacked Shloime Rand, 34, and Norman Shine, 76, with a knife in Golders Green, north London. Rand suffered a punctured lung; Shine sustained multiple injuries, including wounds to the neck.

Earlier that same day, Suleiman is alleged to have stabbed his friend of 20 years, Ishmail Hussein, at a home in Southwark, south London. He was subsequently charged with three counts of attempted murder and possession of a black-handled knife in a public place.

The Somalia-born defendant appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday for a preliminary hearing before Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb, attending by video link from high-security Belmarsh prison, where he confirmed his identity.

Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC outlined the allegations against him. A plea hearing has been scheduled for 25 September, ahead of a provisional three-week trial. Suleiman was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance.
