Man arrested after high-speed A64 pursuit near Scarborough

A man in his twenties is in police custody following an overnight high-speed pursuit on the A64 near Scarborough, thisisthecoast.co.uk reports.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed the incident began just after midnight when officers on patrol spotted a silver Peugeot 207 travelling erratically eastbound near Rillington. The vehicle was seen moving at high speed and swerving between lanes.

When officers attempted to intervene, the driver failed to stop. A pursuit followed as the car continued in the direction of Scarborough.

The chase lasted approximately ten minutes before the vehicle clipped a kerb and came to a halt at Musham Bank.

Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and drink driving. North Yorkshire Police also noted he was arrested on suspicion of possession of class C drugs.

The man remains in custody while investigations into the incident continue.
