Telescope, toilet seats and coffee machine: what Murrell bought with SNP funds

Former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell spent embezzled party funds on a £1,200 space telescope, toilet seats and a £3,232 coffee machine. He has pleaded guilty to embezzling over £400,000.

SNP embezzlement: the purchases detailed in a 126-page indictment

A £1,200 space telescope, two toilet seats costing nearly £70 and a designer bread bin worth £60 are among hundreds of items former Scottish National Party chief executive Peter Murrell bought with embezzled party funds, RTÉ News reports.

Murrell, the former husband of ex-SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon, has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than £400,000 from the party.

The 126-page indictment also lists three designer manicure sets purchased for nearly £194, DVDs of the Danish political thriller Borgen, a copy of Grand Theft Auto V and a designer egg poacher set for nearly £24.

Among the more expensive items was a Jura Giga 5 Cromo coffee machine for nearly £3,232. Murrell also bought a book of speeches by Sturgeon using the embezzled funds.
