Murder investigation after fatal double stabbing in Silvertown, east London

A 35-year-old man died and a second man was hospitalised after a double stabbing in Newham. Three suspects were arrested near the scene.

A 35-year-old man has died following a double stabbing in Silvertown, east London, bbc.co.uk reports, with the Metropolitan Police launching a murder investigation.

Officers were called to Pankhurst Avenue at around 09:00 BST on Friday after reports of an attack. The victim was found with stab wounds in the garden of a property on Rayleigh Road, close to Pankhurst Avenue, and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A second man, in his 20s, was also taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Two men aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman were arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder and remain in custody, the Metropolitan Police confirmed. The victim's next-of-kin have been informed.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, from the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said: "My thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the man who has died."

Yorke added that a large police presence remains in the area and urged residents with concerns to speak to officers at the scene. "Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and our enquiries are continuing at pace," she said. "I would ask anyone with information or CCTV footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch with police."
