Three arrested in Oxford roads policing operation, 20 illegal e-scooters seized

A motorist and two youths on a stolen moped were arrested in Oxford during a national roads safety operation. Police also seized 20 illegal e-scooters, e-bikes and electric motorbikes.

Oxford arrests and vehicle seizures in national roads safety crackdown

Thames Valley Police arrested three people in Oxford on Saturday as part of a national roads safety operation, bbc.co.uk reports.

The force's roads policing unit received reports of two youths riding a stolen moped in Summertown. Officers located the pair and the "freshly stolen motorcycle" was returned to its owner; the two youths remain in custody on numerous offences.

A third arrest was made in Cowley, where a driver was stopped for using a mobile phone at the wheel. Officers found the disqualified motorist in possession of cocaine with intent to supply after he allegedly attempted to dispose of the drugs. He was due to appear in court on Sunday.

The TVP roads policing unit operated alongside Cowley Neighbourhood Policing Team, the Special Constabulary and the Motor Insurers' Bureau. Across the operation, officers seized a total of 20 illegal e-scooters, e-bikes and electric motorbikes — the majority belonging to fast food delivery riders, according to the unit. Two cars were also seized for having no tax or licence, and 20 fixed-penalty tickets were issued for no insurance.
