Sur-ron bike, knife and drugs seized from 15-year-old in Wythenshawe stop

A teenager was arrested in south Manchester after officers found a large knife and class B drugs following a proactive stop. £1,000 in cash was also recovered from a linked address.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested in Wythenshawe after Greater Manchester Police officers spotted him behaving suspiciously on a Sur-ron electric bike, manchestereveningnews.co.uk reports.

Officers responded to reports of the teenager riding on Gladeside Road at around 5pm on Wednesday, 5 June. The suspect initially fled, attempting to draw police into a pursuit, before being detained a short time later by a plain-clothed officer.

A search of the boy revealed a large knife and a quantity of class B drugs. A property linked to him was subsequently searched and £1,000 in cash was recovered.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and possession of class B drugs, and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Body-worn camera footage of the arrest, released by GMP, shows the knife being removed from the suspect as he is held on the ground.

Operation Venture Sergeant Mohammed Waqas said the stop was part of ongoing efforts to tackle knife crime across the region. "This is just another proactive stop from our officers in our bid to reduce knife crime," he said.

Waqas added that Operation Venture, established in December 2022, has so far resulted in more than 1,180 arrests and the seizure of hundreds of weapons. "We've seen first-hand the devastating impact knife crime can have on not only those directly affected by it but also the communities involved," he said.

Officers from the operation continue to target hotspot areas across Greater Manchester, according to Waqas.
