A 39-year-old west London woman appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday charged with murder after a man in his 30s was found dead in the back of a Ford Transit van, bbc.com reports.

Harinder Kaur, of Sutton Dene in Hounslow, was charged following the discovery of the body in a van parked in Garden Street, Leicester, at around 17:30 BST on 27 May. Kaur also faces a charge of perverting the course of justice.

Speaking through a Punjabi interpreter, Kaur was told by Judge Timothy Spencer KC that she was in a "very serious position" and faced "the most serious charge" of murder.

Prosecution counsel Elizabeth Dodds indicated that an application would be made to transfer the case from Leicester Crown Court to the Old Bailey in London, on the grounds that the crime scene and a significant number of witnesses are based in the capital. Police noted the van had been registered to an address in west London.

Judge Spencer adjourned the hearing to allow inquiries to be made with the Central Criminal Court regarding available capacity. He indicated that Leicester could accommodate a trial in January or February 2027 should the transfer not proceed.

The investigation was initially launched by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit with support from Leicestershire Police before being handed over to the Metropolitan Police.

The judge told Kaur there remained "something of a question mark" over the venue for her trial.
