Two Hattiesburg residents charged over South 10th Avenue shooting

Two people from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, have been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that left one person injured near The Oaks neighbourhood, wdam.com reports.

Channing Vardmus Bolton, 42, and Rita Kittler, 48, both face charges of attempted murder. Bolton faces an additional count of tampering with physical evidence.

The shooting took place on South 10th Avenue on Wednesday, 28 July. Investigators believe Kittler drove a vehicle used before, during, and after the incident. It remains unclear whether she was driving the silver Honda the victim was in at the time of the shooting, or a separate vehicle.

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No information has been released on whether they have since been discharged.

The Hattiesburg Police Department declined to answer follow-up questions submitted by wdam.com, stating that "there is no further information available at this time."

No date has been set for the suspects' initial court appearances.
