Officer opens fire at teen pool party, three juveniles hospitalised
Google News MT — Crime (en) reports that the St. Louis County Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left three teenagers injured late Sunday night.
Officers were initially dispatched to a house party off Prendergast near Bellefontaine Road, where more than 100 teens had gathered at a pool. Upon arrival, police said juveniles began scattering across private property in multiple directions.
Officers subsequently responded to the intersection of Bellefontaine Road and Larimore Road, where fireworks were being discharged and thrown at police vehicles.
A 33-year-old officer with six years on the force perceived a threat from a vehicle, which led to shots being fired, police said. Two teenagers — one male and one female — were struck by gunfire. A third female sustained injuries from broken glass. All three were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer who discharged his weapon has been placed on administrative leave, which the department described as standard protocol. No officers were injured in the incident.
Nine juveniles were taken into custody at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210.
