An assailant with a blade injured five individuals at Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan during the evening hours on Sunday, the New York Post reported.

The assault began around 7 p.m. at the bustling commuter center. First responders brought the wounded to Bellevue Hospital for treatment. Fire officials stated that one victim was in serious condition, two had moderate wounds, and the remaining pair suffered minor harm.

Police detained a suspect following the violence. Individuals familiar with the matter suggested the person arrested may have mental health issues.

Photographs circulating on social platforms depicted officers forcing an individual onto the ground inside the rail terminal. An eyewitness posted that travelers were fleeing the location after the incident.

Officials noted that inquiries into the matter are still underway.
