Actor Timothy Busfield claims career is 'finished' after child sex abuse charges
A 69-year-old American actor and producer told a grand jury in Albuquerque, New Mexico, that he believes his professional life is over because of child sexual abuse allegations against him, according to a prosecution deposition obtained by USA Today and reported by Philenews.
Timothy Busfield testified for two hours in February, insisting the accusations are false. He faces four counts of criminal sexual contact involving children under the age of 13. The case involves two young actors who appeared in the television series "The Cleaning Lady," where Busfield worked as a producer and director between 2022 and 2025.
During his testimony, Busfield stated he had been "canceled." He said he lost television roles, was replaced digitally in a film, and was dropped by his talent agency. "I don't think I will work again," he told the grand jury, adding that people would fear he might reoffend, "and even if it's not true, I'm finished."
Busfield alleged the claims were fabricated by the children's parents for money and revenge because he did not cast them for the show's fourth season. He further claimed the parents "coached" the children to accuse him.
Prosecutors in New Mexico announced the charges on 6 February. Busfield was arrested in January but was later released after a judge found no history of criminal conduct. His trial is scheduled to begin in May 2027.
