Michael Broadie, 41, of Albany has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison after pleading guilty to second-degree attempted murder, spectrumlocalnews.com reports.

Broadie fired a handgun at Troy police officers who had responded to a complaint about him in a parking area off River Street on 2 December 2024. Officers returned fire. No officers were struck; police said Broadie's weapon malfunctioned, stopping him from discharging additional rounds. Broadie himself sustained injuries to his torso, leg and lip.

Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced the sentence on Monday, which also includes five years of post-release supervision. Donnelly noted that the shooting represents Broadie's third felony conviction involving an illegal firearm.

At the time of the incident, Broadie was out on bail. Albany police had arrested him in September 2024 on charges of possessing three illegal firearms and illegal drugs.
