On June 7, police in Louisiana received reports of a vehicle driving dangerously on a highway. Officers located the car and discovered it had struck a concrete barrier, leaving one tire blown out, according to a police statement.

When officers stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, 40-year-old Victor Rivas, they observed signs suggesting possible intoxication. Suddenly, Rivas attempted to escape, running into a nearby swamp.

In the swamp, the fleeing man quickly attracted an alligator's attention. He managed to survive the encounter, though both of his arms were injured. Despite the wounds, Rivas continued running until law enforcement located and detained him using drone technology, police reported.

The suspect was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Authorities confirmed the alligator was unharmed in the incident.

Rivas now faces charges of driving under the influence and resisting a police officer.
