Veteran American actor James Handy, whose career spanned six decades with appearances in films including "Jumanji" and "Top Gun: Maverick," was found stabbed to death at his Los Angeles residence, authorities confirmed.

The 81-year-old performer was discovered unconscious in the yard of his Tarzana, California home on Wednesday, suffering from multiple wounds to his chest, BBC reported.

Los Angeles police arrested 44-year-old Michael Gladhill in connection with the slaying. Gladhill is the son of Handy's girlfriend, according to an official statement from the department.

Officers responded to a 911 call in which the caller stated: "I am the son of the person, I just killed the sinner." Upon arriving at the scene, Gladhill allegedly approached responding officers and identified himself as the individual they were seeking.

"The suspect resides at this location with his mother, who is the victim's girlfriend," the police statement indicated.

Investigators consider the incident isolated and do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.

Following his arrest, Gladhill was transported to Van Nuys Jail and charged with one count of murder. Bail was set at $2 million.

Handy, a New York native, built an extensive career in film and television. While rarely cast in leading roles, he accumulated numerous credits across productions such as "Law & Order," "CSI: NY," and "The X-Files." His most recent appearance came in the 2022 blockbuster "Top Gun: Maverick."
