Ohio Man Charged with Rape and Murder After Victim Dies of Stroke

Summit County man arraigned over rape and murder of 48-year-old woman

Cleveland19.com reports that Adam Richardson, 41, of Green, Ohio, is scheduled to appear before a judge at Barberton Municipal Court on Friday, facing charges of murder, rape, and felonious assault.

According to a news release from the Summit County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a report on 30 August 2025 that a 48-year-old woman — later identified as Berkhouse Hollingsworth — had been sexually assaulted. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment following the incident.

Court records from Barberton Municipal Court allege Richardson used force and threats against Hollingsworth during the assault. The arrest report states he punched her multiple times, choked her, and raped her.

As a result of the attack, Hollingsworth suffered a stroke that left her paralysed. She died from her injuries in December 2025. The Summit County Medical Examiner subsequently ruled her death a homicide.

Nearly a year after the alleged assault, sheriff's detectives searched Richardson's home on Thursday and placed him under arrest. Investigators also recovered electronics, illegal narcotics, and cash during the search.

The Sheriff's Office said additional charges are pending, subject to the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
