Man killed, woman wounded in Trujillo Alto shooting
A man was fatally shot and a woman wounded during a nighttime shooting on Friday near a tire shop along Highway PR-181 in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico.
Police recovered multiple bullet casings at the scene, confirmed Inspector Mabel Olivera, director of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Carolina, in a telephone interview with El Nuevo Día.
"Multiple casings were found at the scene, but I have not yet received the report with the caliber," Olivera stated.
The victim was preliminarily identified, though authorities withheld his name pending family notification. "We were able to preliminarily identify the person, but we cannot disclose his identity until the family is notified," Olivera said.
The woman who was with the victim at the time of the shooting remains hospitalized at the Centro Médico in Río Piedras. Her condition was described as stable. "She is stable but sedated. We are waiting for her to recover from the medications so we can interview her," Olivera emphasized.
The inspector did not indicate whether the victims were inside a vehicle when the gunfire erupted.
According to the preliminary report, a call to the 9-1-1 Emergency System at 7:08 p.m. on Friday alerted police to gunshots along Highway PR-181 in Trujillo Alto. Upon arrival, officers found a man with gunshot wounds and no vital signs, along with a conscious woman who had also been shot. The woman was first taken to a local Diagnostic and Treatment Center, where she was stabilized before being transferred to the Centro Médico.
