Riley Ferrer was driving north on Florida's I-75 highway late Friday night when he lost control of his vehicle. He veered off the road, collided with another car, and crashed into a wooded area. Two people were seriously injured in the crash, prompting authorities to dispatch a medical helicopter to transport the victims to hospital.

Police closed the northbound lanes of the interstate so the helicopter could land safely. While paramedics were preparing the injured for air transport, Ferrer attempted to steal the aircraft.

Officers placed him in the back of a patrol car and took him to a hospital in Brooksville. After a medical evaluation, he was transferred to the Hernando County jail, where he continued to resist authorities.

Ferrer faces charges of three counts of non-violent resisting an officer without violence, plus one count of unlawful entry into an occupied vehicle. Bail was set at $3,000 for the resisting charges, but he is being held without bail on the vehicle-entry charge.

No details have been released about the condition of the two other individuals involved in the crash.
