A routine traffic stop in Covington, Tennessee, escalated into a foot chase and two arrests after a passenger fled a pulled-over vehicle armed with a rifle, guyanachronicle.com reports.

The incident began when a Covington police officer attempted to stop a driver for a broken brake light near the intersection of Highway 51 and Church Street. The passenger exited the vehicle, rifle in hand, and fled on foot down West Pleasant Street.

The armed suspect entered 1776 Barbershop Parlor, where officers quickly surrounded the building. Inside, police found the man seated in one of the barber chairs, posing as a customer waiting for a haircut.

Damian Lattimore, 24, was taken into custody and charged with evading arrest, tampering with evidence, and reckless endangerment. He was awaiting a bond hearing at the time of reporting. The rifle — described as pink — was recovered in nearby grass close to a water treatment facility.

While officers were dealing with Lattimore, the driver of the original vehicle fled the scene. Police in the neighbouring town of Ripley later tracked him down on Skyline Drive.

The driver, identified as Vertavious Barbee, 21, was arrested and charged with evading arrest and violation of light law. His bond was set at $15,000.
