A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly obstructing the investigation into the fatal shooting of a college senior in Philadelphia.

A man has been taken into custody on accusations he interfered with detectives probing the killing of a university student in Pennsylvania's largest city.

Thirty-five-year-old Dante Abdul Malik was apprehended by federal marshals. He stands accused of hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence. Malik is the stepfather of Azzubair Outen-Fleming, a 16-year-old already jailed in connection with the deadly June 6 attack on Billy Schmidt.

Schmidt, who was finishing his studies at Penn State, died from a gunshot wound to the chest on Durfor Street. Investigators say video recordings captured events leading up to the violence. The victim had reportedly been chasing people who stole his phone when one turned and fired.

Another teenager, also 16, remains at large. Kaiseem Smith is still being sought, and prosecutors think he may have been the shooter.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said evidence points to Smith as the gunman.

The victim's father, William Schmidt, said he is relieved the investigation is moving forward but nothing can replace his son. He described living near where the tragedy occurred as unbearable and plans to move from the home he shared with Billy.

Officials have offered up to $30,000 for information leading to the capture of the remaining suspect. Anyone with relevant details should contact Philadelphia police or the U.S. Marshals Service.
