Police in West Chester Township shot and killed a 39-year-old man who was holding a knife to a woman's throat inside an apartment.

A thirty-nine-year-old male died after a patrol sergeant opened fire during a hostage situation inside a suburban Cincinnati apartment, according to WYSO Public Radio.

The deceased was identified as Lorenzo Miller. Shortly before 10 p.m. on June 4, a nearby resident dialed emergency services after hearing a female voice screaming for assistance from a unit on Zinnia Court.

When nobody responded to knocks, officers forced entry. Worn cameras captured them moving through the residence until they located Miller and a woman inside an upstairs restroom.

Miller could be heard warning them not to rush in, saying he had a blade pressed against her neck. The woman screamed for help.

The footage shows officers ordering him to release her, then entering the room and discharging one round. Miller was still pressing the blade to her neck when the shot was fired.

The female victim displayed several visible injuries. She received care at UC Hospital West Chester and was later discharged.

None of the responding officers were seriously hurt.

Four personnel have been placed on routine administrative leave. The shooter is a sergeant with two decades of service.

Miller had a lengthy criminal past, including earlier convictions for aggravated homicide, domestic abuse, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Butler County Prosecutor, Ohio Attorney General, and Butler County Coroner are jointly examining the incident.
