A man's remains were found along a popular riverside pathway in Boise, prompting detectives to launch a murder investigation.

Emergency services were alerted around 7:30 a.m. on Monday after someone spotted a motionless individual near the water's edge by 11th Street. Responding personnel confirmed the adult male was no longer alive.

Specialists from the city's violent offences unit have assumed control of the probe. Early indications point to the fatal event occurring in the early morning hours, sometime between midnight and when the corpse was discovered. The circumstances are being examined as an intentional killing.

At present, no persons of interest have been identified. The local coroner's office is keeping the deceased's name confidential until family members can be informed.

A segment of the pathway running between Pioneer Pathway and 11th Street has been cordoned off. Forensic specialists are combing the area for clues. Officials expect the restricted zone to remain in place for a number of hours. Signs directing trail users around the closure have been installed.

Anyone who noticed anything unusual in the vicinity during the relevant timeframe is urged to reach out to county dispatch. Authorities are additionally requesting that residents and businesses review any security camera recordings that might capture activity along the riverfront.
