A 26-year-old man from Colombia died during an operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Biddeford, Maine. Local civil rights organizations identified the deceased as a Colombian national who held a work permit in the United States. ICE did not respond to requests for comment.

The incident marks the second fatal shooting during an ICE operation in the United States within a single week. Just days earlier, an ICE agent shot and killed a Mexican immigrant during an operation in Houston, Texas. According to the Department of Homeland Security, that individual had allegedly disobeyed orders, rammed an ICE vehicle with his car, and attempted to run over an officer. The agency characterized the shooting as self-defense.

Maine Governor Janet Mills confirmed that local police had been informed about the ICE operation in Biddeford and that a person had died during the incident. The circumstances surrounding the Maine shooting remain under investigation.

The two deadly operations come amid heightened scrutiny of ICE tactics. Independent verification of official accounts has proven difficult in past cases, though video footage in similar incidents has previously raised significant doubts about agency narratives. In January, federal agents shot and killed U.S. citizens Renée Good and Alex Pretti in a separate operation that triggered nationwide outrage.
