A carjacking suspect deliberately mowed down multiple people on foot in a Los Angeles suburb, then crashed during a police chase that left one officer wounded.

The violent chain of events unfolded around 7 p.m. Wednesday in Culver City, California, when emergency dispatchers got a call about someone seizing a vehicle at blade-point, the New York Post reported.

Patrol units spotted the stolen car and gave chase into neighboring Los Angeles after word came in of a severe hit-and-run. During the flight, the motorist drove erratically — blowing through red signals, using shoulder lanes, and appearing to aim at people walking along the route.

Before officers could intercept him, the driver had already knocked down two victims. During the pursuit itself, four additional pedestrians were struck. The conditions of all six injured walkers have not been made public.

The chase came to a crashing halt inside a fast-food restaurant's drive-through lane. There, the apprehension of the suspect resulted in injuries to a member of the police force. The severity of the officer's wounds was not disclosed.

The driver was taken for medical evaluation with only slight harm. When questioned about what drove the assault, a police spokesperson said the reasoning remained unclear.

"What we do know is he was acting recklessly and dangerously and putting lives in jeopardy in our city," the official remarked.

Prosecutors are pursuing a battery of counts against the individual, including an attempted homicide charge. Several other automobiles were damaged throughout the ordeal. Detectives continue examining the circumstances.
