Two children were killed and a third left in critical condition following a single-car crash in Fayetteville, North Carolina, abc11.com reports.

Officers responded at around 10:50 p.m. Wednesday to Cedar Creek Road near Fields Road. Three children and their mother were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to the NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).

NCSHP confirmed that none of the three children were secured in child seats. Two of the children died at the scene; the third was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and remains in a critical condition.

The driver, identified by troopers as the mother of all three children, was also taken to hospital with injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims. The crash remains under investigation.
