An 18-year-old was killed and three others wounded, including an 11-year-old child, in a shooting that erupted Wednesday evening in the parking lot of Fairfield High School in California following a graduation ceremony.

An 18-year-old died and three other individuals were injured when gunfire broke out Wednesday evening in the parking lot of Fairfield High School in California, shortly after a graduation ceremony had concluded, reports G4Media.ro citing CNN.

Police responded at approximately 7:15 p.m. local time to the shooting at the school parking lot, located about 80 kilometers northeast of San Francisco, said Fairfield Police Officer Michelle Belyea in a statement to KCRA, a CNN affiliate.

Among the wounded were an 11-year-old child and two adults aged 20 and 25, according to Belyea. The 18-year-old female victim succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident.

"This is an evolving incident," Belyea stated, adding that an active investigation is underway and that authorities currently have no information suggesting any ongoing threat to the community.

Law enforcement officials have not released any details about a suspect.

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District told CNN that officers responded to gunfire at the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremony, which shares a campus with Fairfield High School, according to KCRA.

A ceremony attendee told KCRA he heard shots while people were taking photographs in the school parking lot. Amanda Prieto, a resident living near the school, said she was in her backyard on a phone call when she heard the gunfire. "I looked over the fence and people were screaming and running through the parking lot. It was horrible," she told KCRA. Her 17-year-old son attends the school.

Ilana Israel Samuels of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District said in a statement to CNN: "Our thoughts are with those affected, and as soon as we have more details, we will share them with you."
