The remains of a person were discovered Saturday inside a burning sport utility vehicle in the Luquillo Mar neighborhood, bearing a projectile injury to the head.

According to information reported by El Nuevo Día, police officers received an alert through the 9-1-1 Emergency System at 3:21 p.m. about a vehicle fire on V-1 Street in that residential area.

Personnel from the Fire Bureau responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze that was consuming a white Toyota 4Runner. During the inspection of the area, officers noticed the presence of a charred body in the rear section of the vehicle. A preliminary examination revealed that the victim had a gunshot wound to the lateral area of the skull.

At this time, authorities have not disclosed the identity of the deceased individual. The investigation has been assigned to personnel from the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Fajardo, who are working to clarify the circumstances surrounding the case.
