Children in home during demolition: Pennsylvania man faces multiple charges
According to topky.sk, a family row in the American state of Pennsylvania escalated into a dramatic incident with serious legal consequences. Forty-eight-year-old Eric Pierwsz climbed into an excavator and began destroying the rear section of a family home – at the time of demolition, his wife and two daughters were inside.
The incident occurred in Butler County. According to information from CBS News television, the events were preceded by a quarrel between the couple. Pierwsz's wife informed him that she considered their relationship definitively over.
"If it's really over, I'll demolish this house," he reportedly told his wife, according to investigators.
Shortly afterwards, he moved towards the excavator and actually began the demolition. During an emergency call to the helpline, the sound of machinery breaking through walls was clearly audible, according to investigative materials. The responding units subsequently determined that the extent of damage could have compromised the structural integrity of the entire building. Investigators do not rule out that the house is uninhabitable following the incident.
After the demolition, Pierwsz returned to the house for a short time, took a sports bag, and left. Police tracked him down and detained him.
The prosecution charged him with multiple criminal offences – specifically creating a dangerous situation endangering lives, reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct. The first court hearing is scheduled for 9 June. Following the incident, his wife applied to the court for a protection order against domestic violence.
The case shocked neighbours as well. In interviews with KDKA-TV television, they said there was nothing to suggest that the family dispute could end in destruction of the house and police intervention. According to them, they can scarcely explain how the situation escalated to such an extreme act in a short space of time.
The court will decide the further fate of the accused.
