Two additional suspects have been arrested in connection with a foiled attack plot targeting the White House during President Trump's 80th birthday celebration.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Monday that two more individuals have been taken into custody in connection with a thwarted attack plan aimed at the White House. The plot targeted the 80th birthday celebration of President Donald Trump, which featured a mixed martial arts spectacle on the South Lawn.

According to prosecutors, the scheme involved launching explosive-laden drones near the MMA venue to trigger an evacuation, allowing concealed shooters to target high-ranking officials attending the event.

The first of the two newly arrested suspects was apprehended on June 19 in the state of Washington. Authorities accuse him of participating in discussions about how to rig explosives onto drones. The second was detained on Sunday in Missouri and is charged with agreeing to manufacture drone components.

Both men face attempted murder charges. They join five other suspects, aged 19 to 32, who were previously arrested and indicted in the days leading up to the June 14 event. Those earlier arrests occurred in Ohio, California, Missouri, and Nebraska.

The FBI, the federal investigative agency, carried out both new arrests. The expanded investigation suggests a broader network may have been involved in planning the assault.

President Trump celebrated his milestone birthday by converting the White House lawn into an MMA arena for the occasion. More than 4,000 invited guests, including Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg and Paramount head David Ellison, were seated around the cage for the politically charged spectacle.
