Federal authorities have detained a 63-year-old man with dual citizenship who allegedly trafficked American-made technology to Iranian entities, including organizations tied to the country's nuclear and military programs.

Jamshid Ghomi was taken into custody at his residence in Newport Coast, California, according to a joint announcement by the Justice Department and federal prosecutors. Investigators say he used his business as a front to funnel restricted equipment to buyers in Iran.

The indictment alleges Ghomi sold "modern American-made network, security, and coding equipment" to Iranian purchasers. Among the recipients were agencies connected to Tehran's atomic energy program and other military bodies subject to international sanctions.

Federal officials say the suspect enriched himself by transferring more than $15 million to personal American bank accounts and an escrow account. When questioned about the source of these funds, he reportedly told tax authorities the money came from an inheritance received from abroad.

"The suspect allegedly advanced his own wealth by supplying American technology to Iran's Atomic Energy Organization and additional sanctioned entities linked to the Iranian nuclear program," stated John Eisenberg, a senior official at the Justice Department responsible for national security matters.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about the illegal export of sensitive US technology to adversarial nations. Prosecutors have not yet disclosed the specific charges Ghomi faces or when he will appear in court.
