A 36-year-old man from Fort Wayne, Indiana, cut off his own genitals, doused them in gasoline, and used them to start a blaze inside a neighbor's garage, court filings show. Christopher Peden initially told police he had been stabbed by someone else in the city's downtown area, but later admitted he was not telling the truth and wanted to be "honest" with investigators.

The incident occurred on May 6 inside a garage in Fort Wayne. According to the account Peden gave officers, he "hurt himself" with a kitchen knife, severing his penis. He then poured fuel over the detached body part and set it alight on the garage floor, directly inside the doorway.

When officers later encountered Peden, he claimed he had been attacked and cut. He soon recanted that story, telling detectives he wanted to come clean about what really happened.

Investigators who searched the garage found a red plastic gasoline can, four lighters, and a kitchen knife at the scene.

Peden has been charged with arson and is scheduled to appear in court next week.
