Authorities in Pima County, Arizona, have made public two ransom messages tied to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, six months after the 84-year-old woman vanished from her home outside Tucson.

The county sheriff announced on Saturday that the texts were released with the family's consent in the hope that residents might recognize the kidnapper's wording or style and provide new leads.

The first message, dated February 2, claims Guthrie is being held safely and demands four million dollars in cryptocurrency for her release, according to 24.hu.

A second note sent on February 6 states that the elderly woman had died and had been buried somewhere unspecified "in nature." The writer of that message also expressed regret over what had happened.

The sheriff emphasized that the investigation remains active. Detectives are still reviewing tens of thousands of tips, videos and other evidence collected since Guthrie disappeared on the night of February 1 following a family gathering.

Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie, the victim's daughter and a well-known American television host, again turned to social media to ask the public for help. In an earlier video she had acknowledged that her mother was probably no longer alive, and in her latest statement she said the family wants to learn exactly what happened and to give Nancy "the proper dignity of a goodbye."
