A grand jury in the US state of Idaho has indicted 23-year-old Andrea Shaw for the murders of her 18-month-old twins. Shaw had previously claimed the children died from vaccinations, according to reporting by the Associated Press cited by České noviny.

Prosecutors allege Shaw smothered the twins in May of last year. Shortly after their deaths, she appeared on a podcast run by Children's Health Defense, an anti-vaccine organization formerly led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. before he became US Health Secretary in January. In that interview, Shaw stated she found the children dead in their room several days after they received shots for influenza and other illnesses from two nurses who administered the vaccines simultaneously.

The vaccines mentioned — for hepatitis A, influenza, and the combined diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis shot — are considered safe and effective for children by major medical organizations.

Shaw is currently held on $2 million bail. If convicted, she faces either life imprisonment or the death penalty. Her attorney, Joe Filicetti, maintains her innocence and claims the state will be unable to prove the charges.

Shaw is also listed as a plaintiff in a lawsuit filed by Children's Health Defense in January against the American Academy of Pediatrics, accusing the organization of deceiving families about vaccine safety.
