Police discovered the remains of a senior woman in an advanced state of decomposition inside a San Juan residence; her adult son, who has a physical disability, was found beside her.

Officers discovered the remains of an elderly woman in an advanced state of decomposition inside a home in a San Juan metropolitan area neighborhood on Friday afternoon.

According to a preliminary report, relatives had been unable to reach the woman, prompting them to call the 9-1-1 emergency line at approximately 1:30 p.m. The caller indicated that the senior resident lived on Tegucigalpa Street in the Las Américas neighborhood.

When police arrived at the residence, they located the deceased woman. Authorities have not yet released her identity. An adult son, who suffers from an unspecified physical disability, was also found at the scene next to his mother's body.

At this stage, investigators have not determined the cause or manner of death. The case remains under investigation.
